The Shepherd

There were blue skies with scattered puffy clouds

A flock of sheep had come down from the hillside to graze peacefully in the meadows below

The shepherd and his two faithful collies watched from a distance

It has been a very mild winter and all the lambs had survived

The shepherd's collies kept their eyes trained on the flock

The shepherd's staff was fashioned from the branch of a tree

Like the collies, the staff had served him well

In two weeks time flocks of sheep would lose their winter coats at the sheep sheering

It was a hard life but times like such as today the shepherd and his collies could simply watch the world go by
